GRSMP SOPOT 2011

- 19.07.2011

On 10-11 of July, the 5th and 6th Qualifiers for Polish Mountain Car Rally Championship were held in Sopot. In the seaside resort, there also appeared Dariusz Mikolajczyk, a competitor from the Rzeszów Automobile Club, supported by Magneti Marelli - among the total of 67 drivers. Once again, he sat behind the wheel of Renault Clio 1.8 16V in the class HS/Z 2000 lent by Witek Zimny.

-        I was in Sopot the first time and I had literally no idea about the route. Already after the first runs, I knew it would not be easy but its racing nature suited me fine. I devoted the first day to get familiar with the route and catching the places where I make mistakes. Run after run, I improved my driving times and, after last Saturday's uphill race, I knew I had by then got in touch with much more powerful cars in my class. The mood in the team after Saturday was great because our plan for Sunday was to eliminate errors and put pressure on the stronger competitors. Unfortunately, all these hopes vanished on Sunday morning just before the familiarization drive... After driving 50 meters from our tent during warm tire service, the gearbox in our Clio fell apart. That was the end of our fight in Sopot.

From this place, I'd like to thank the company Magneti Marelli CheckStar without which my start in Sopot would not be possible.

The next start of Renault Clio will be at the Rzeszow Rally on August 5-6. This time, the crew will be the Witek Zimny – Szczepan Mirek pair. You are most welcome to come.
